Driven by fear of his half-brother Moggallana, the rightful heir, Kasyapa chose this formidable rock as his royal abode and built an impregnable fortress and a lavish palace atop it. For nearly two decades, Sigiriya served as the heart of his kingdom, a marvel of urban planning and artistic expression. After Kasyapa's defeat, the site transitioned into a monastic retreat, preserving its grandeur for centuries to come.
